Hellen Eber-Meza

Little Artist, Big Dreams

“I like to draw pictures of dinosaurs.”

A Vibrant Convergence of Youthful Enthusiasm and Fierce Creativity.

Hellen Eber-Meza, a bright and imaginative kindergartner, has a knack for making everyone around her smile. With her infectious enthusiasm, she brings a sense of wonder and excitement to everything she does, whether it’s drawing dinosaurs, playing with her friends, or caring for her baby brother.

At just six years old, Hellen’s love for art has already earned her a place, along with a few of her BGS peers, in several exhibits in St. Louis, Missouri. Her drawings, particularly those of dinosaurs, have captivated audiences and showcased her budding talent. “I like to draw pictures of dinosaurs,” Hellen shared with a sparkle in her eye. Her favorite dinosaur, the T. Rex, may be fearsome to some, but to Hellen, it’s a source of endless fascination and fun.

Hellen’s teacher, Mrs. Quinn, has been instrumental in nurturing her artistic abilities. “Mrs. Quinn reads us stories and helps us learn new things,” Hellen said, nodding enthusiastically. It’s clear that the support she receives in the classroom plays a significant role in her development, both academically and artistically. Beyond her artistic talents, Hellen is a typical kindergartner who loves to play with her friends, dance, and explore the world around her. “I like to play football with my feet and dance for my baby brother,” she giggled. Her two-month-old brother is a source of joy for her, and she loves making him laugh with her dance moves, an imagined sight that she brought to life during our interview.

Hellen’s love for her family is evident. When asked who she is most proud of, she didn’t hesitate to mention her baby brother, her mom, and her dad. “They tell me things to help me learn more,” she said, demonstrating a wisdom beyond her years. Her parents’ guidance and support have clearly made a positive impact on her.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Hellen enjoys spending time at the park, playing on the computers at school, and looking forward to special events like pizza day in the school cafeteria. Her excitement for life and learning is contagious, and she has big dreams for the future. Although she hasn’t decided yet whether she wants to be a paleontologist—”Psst…They dig up dinosaur bones!”—or pursue another path, one thing is certain: Hellen’s enthusiasm and creativity will take her far.

Hellen’s artwork has not only been featured in her art room and on her parents’ refrigerator doors, but also in significant venues like the St. Louis Science Center and the Missouri Botanical Garden. These opportunities have given her a taste of the broader world and have ignited a passion for exploring new horizons. Her journey as a young artist is just beginning, and her school community couldn’t be prouder.

We’re chatting in mid-May, and as the school year comes to an end, Hellen looks forward to spending her summer days at the park, swimming, and continuing her artistic endeavors. Her birthday in September will mark another milestone in her young life, and she is already excited about the possibilities the future holds.

Hellen’s story is a testament to the power of creativity, family support, and the nurturing environment of Benton Grade School. She embodies the spirit of a community that values education, the arts, and the endless potential of its youngest members.

In Hellen’s own words, if she had a magic wand, she would use it to help her mom, dad, and baby brother. This empathetic wish reflects her kind heart and the deep love she has for her family. It’s this same kindness and love that make Hellen a shining star at Benton Grade School and an inspiration to everyone who knows her.

The Benton community takes pride in celebrating the achievements of its students, and Hellen Eber-Meza’s journey is a reminder of the incredible impact that supportive families and dedicated educators can have on a child’s life. As Hellen continues to grow and explore her interests, there’s no doubt that she will continue to inspire, dance with her feet, dream of dinosaurs, and bring joy to those around her.
