Keaton Gibbs
A Future Built on Hard Work and Family Values
He shines in subjects like math and science.
At just seven years old, Keaton’s interests stretch well beyond the classroom, where his love for math and science sets him apart. His passion extends to the world of construction, a legacy deeply rooted in his family’s history.
Keaton comes from a long line of hard workers, with both his father and grandfather deeply involved in the construction industry. “My dad’s been doing this work since he was 14,” Keaton shares proudly. “He operates big machines like scrapers and dozers, and I go to work with him when I can.” For Keaton, learning about these massive machines is more than just a hobby—it’s a way of life, something he’s been around since he was three years old. His family’s company, Gibbs Construction, and its partner company, Blue Ridge, specialize in both construction and parts sales, keeping everything from scrapers to graders moving smoothly.
Keaton’s fascination with construction is more than just watching from the sidelines. He’s hands-on, too. “I have my own tools,” Keaton says with a grin. “Wrenches, ratchets, sockets, and even blow guns—I’ve got everything I need.” His mechanical knowledge goes beyond just knowing the tools; Keaton understands the machines his family operates. “Scrapers carry things, and dozers push things,” he explains, offering a glimpse into the technical knowledge he’s already absorbed.
For Keaton, it’s not just about the tools or the machines—it’s about following in the footsteps of those he admires most. “I want to do what my dad and grandpa do,” he says confidently. Whether it’s riding along to job sites or observing his father expertly maneuvering heavy machinery, Keaton is learning lessons that will undoubtedly serve him well in the future. “I’m really proud of my dad,” he adds, and it’s clear that pride runs deep in the Gibbs family.
But Keaton’s interests don’t end at construction. In school, he shines in subjects like math and science, particularly enjoying challenging tasks like “popcorn math,” where students solve as many math problems as they can in one minute. “I like math,” Keaton says. “I usually finish in time during popcorn math.” His love for learning extends beyond just completing assignments; Keaton puts in extra time at home, where his parents support him with practice sessions to keep him sharp. “My mom and dad read with me and time me,” he shares, grateful for their encouragement.
When he’s not busy excelling in school or learning the ropes of the construction business, Keaton finds time to enjoy a variety of sports. He’s a true all-rounder, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Of the three, baseball holds a special place in his heart. “I play second base,” he says, excited to move up to kid-pitch baseball next season. “It’s going to be fun!” With such a busy schedule, it’s impressive that Keaton manages to balance his academic interests, athletic endeavors, and construction passion so seamlessly.
Keaton’s connection to Benton runs just as deep as his connection to his family. “I love Benton,” he says simply. His pride in his school and his community shines through when he talks about his favorite parts of the day. “I look forward to playing with my friends and seeing what kind of science or math we’re going to do,” he explains, proving that even at such a young age, Keaton’s enthusiasm for learning and growth is infectious.
As he looks ahead, Keaton’s goals are clear—he wants to continue following in his family’s footsteps, learning more about construction while excelling in school and sports. His dream is to eventually operate the very same machinery his father and grandfather work with every day, becoming a key part of the family business. “It’s in my blood,” Keaton says with a wisdom beyond his years.
For Benton Grade School, Keaton Gibbs is a shining example of what makes the community so special. His work ethic, his love for learning, and his deep connection to both his family and his hometown serve as a reminder that Benton isn’t just raising students—it’s raising future leaders who are already making their mark in the world around them.
