Lane Williams

A Heart for Learning and Adventure

While first grade is just the
beginning of his journey, his
potential is clear.

Surrounded by friends, classmates, and opportunities to grow in academics, athletics, and creativity, first grader Lane Williams is already making his mark. Though young, Lane has a unique combination of curiosity, determination, and a sense of adventure that sets him apart—whether he’s tackling math problems or taking down opponents on the wrestling mat.

Lane is a Benton Ranger through and through, embodying the spirit of a community that deeply values its young people. Born and raised in Benton, he’s the proud older brother to five-year-old Kylan, a role he embraces with warmth and responsibility. “I help her out a lot,” Lane says, already displaying the leadership skills and big-heartedness that define him.

In school, Lane is adjusting to the increased expectations that come with first grade, where he’s learning more challenging subjects like subtraction, adding that the harder work is a sign that his teachers expect more from him and his classmates. While the transition from kindergarten was an adjustment, Lane is rising to the challenge. One of the highlights for him has been his growing love for reading. “I like reading ‘Dan Had a Plan,’” he shares, showing an early interest in storytelling that reflects his budding imagination.

But it’s not just academics where Lane excels—he’s a young athlete with a love for baseball and wrestling. “I play baseball and T-ball, and I started wrestling last year,” Lane says, his face lighting up as he talks about sports. His passion for wrestling, in particular, is undeniable. “You have to get the person down for three seconds,” Lane explains, detailing the precision and skill it takes to pin an opponent. And he’s no stranger to success on the mat, proudly confirming that he’s managed to hold down his opponents more than a few times. With his focus and enthusiasm, it’s no surprise that Lane is already excelling in both sports.

Outside of school and sports, Lane enjoys spending time with his two dogs, Augusta and Arnold, and a neighborhood cat that he’s taken to calling Garfield. “He’s not really our cat,” Lane says with a laugh. “But he looks like Garfield, so we just started calling him that.” Whether it’s animals, friends, or family, Lane’s world is full of companionship and connection.

When the school day ends, Lane loves playing video games like Fortnite with his cousin Kendrick, who is just a month younger than him. “We play all the time,” Lane says, showing that even at his young age, he’s building relationships and learning the value of teamwork— whether it’s in a game or on the baseball field.

Lane’s love for Benton and his deep roots in the community are apparent in everything he does. Whether he’s wearing the maroon of Benton’s Rangers or talking about his favorite books, Lane embodies the values of hard work, friendship, and kindness. And while first grade is just the beginning of his journey, his potential is clear: Lane is not only growing as a student but also as a person who understands the importance of helping others and giving his best effort in all things.

As he continues to grow at Benton Grade School, there’s no doubt that Lane Williams will continue to shine. His enthusiasm for learning, passion for sports, and connection to his family and community make him a true Ranger at heart, and Benton is lucky to have him.
