Lindsey Meadows
A Journey of Strength, Courage, & Compassion
“The relationships I build with the kids, that’s what makes me love my job.”
Lindsey Meadows’s story is one of resilience, dedication, and love, inspiring the Benton Grade School community through her unwavering support and heartfelt service.
Having recently moved from the Attendance Secretary for the kindergarten through eight-grade levels, Lindsey’s journey has taken a significant step forward as she assumes the role of grades five through eight Secretary in the 2024-2025 school year. Her story, marked by resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community, is nothing short of inspiring.
As we speak in her office in mid-May, we learn that Lindsey’s current role involves managing truancy and attendance, a task she has diligently handled for the past two years. “Right now, I’m the truants and attendance secretary for all of K through eighth grade,” she explains. Despite the inherent challenges to this difficult role, Lindsey’s dedication to her work shines through. She recounts how she monitors attendance, follows up with phone calls, and ensures that students are present and accounted for, a crucial aspect for both their education and the school’s funding.
However, Lindsey’s journey to this role was far from straightforward. Before joining Benton Grade School, she explored various professions, from hairstyling to banking, and even worked at a title company and a law firm. Each experience added a layer of resilience and adaptability to her character. “I worked at Amazon in Herrin briefly, then moved into banking at People’s Bank in Benton for about a year and a half,” she recalls. Her diverse background, though challenging, prepared her for the multifaceted role she now excels in.
Lindsey’s strength and determination are perhaps most evident in her personal life. She is a mother of three, each child bringing unique joys and challenges. Her youngest daughter, Lakeland, was born with a heart condition that required surgery at just six days old. “They said she wasn’t supposed to be able to talk, and if she did, it would be with a raspy voice. But she’s a spitfire,” Lindsey proudly shares. Balancing her daughter’s health needs with her professional responsibilities has shaped Lindsey into a remarkable pillar of strength and compassion.
As Lindsey transitions into her new role, she reflects on the relationships she has built with the students. “The interactions, relationships I build with the kids, that’s what makes me love my job and want to come in every day,” she says, her voice filled with emotion. I pass the Kleenex. The genuine care she has for the children is evident, as she recounts moments of providing support and encouragement to those who need it most.
One of the most touching aspects of Lindsey’s story is her desire to be a positive force in the lives of children who may not receive the love and support they need at home. “My biggest goal is to love on the kids that don’t have the love at home,” she states. This commitment to making a difference in the lives of students extends beyond her professional duties and speaks to the core of who Lindsey is.
Lindsey’s promotion is a testament to her hard work and dedication. While she will miss the daily interactions with the younger students, she looks forward to the new challenges and opportunities that await her. “It’s an accomplishment to be able to work here and keep things running smoothly,” she reflects. Her new role will involve overseeing a broader range of responsibilities, ensuring that the school operates efficiently and that both staff and students are supported.
In addition to her secretarial duties, Lindsey also serves as the assistant cheer coach for the junior high team. “The biggest reason was because of the kids,” she explains. “The cheerleaders are like family to us.” Her involvement in extracurricular activities further demonstrates her commitment to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for the students.
Lindsey Meadows’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and boundless compassion. Her journey from various professional roles to becoming a central figure at Benton Grade School is a testament to her dedication and love for her community. As she steps into her new role, Lindsey continues to inspire those around her with her unwavering support and heartfelt service.
Her impact is profound, and her story is a reminder of the difference one person can make in the lives of many. Lindsey Meadows is not just an attendance secretary or a soon-to-be school secretary; she is the embodiment of courage and compassion at Benton Grade School, embodying the values of love, resilience, and community that define this cherished institution.
